MARITZA CORNELIUS earned a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Pretoria. She completed her articles in the field of general litigation and was admitted as an Attorney of the High Court of South Africa in 2005. She also holds the Right of Appearance in the High Court.

Maritza joined LGR Incorporated in 2007 as a professional assistant and has spent almost two decades building her career within the firm’s recoveries division. During this time, she has developed extensive experience in corporate recoveries, operational leadership and banking collections, working with some of South Africa’s leading financial institutions.

As Director of the ABSA Recoveries Department, Maritza leads a multidisciplinary team responsible for the strategic management of banking recovery portfolios across multiple products. Her role combines legal oversight with operational management, client engagement and performance strategy to deliver commercially effective recovery solutions.

Her approach is grounded in practical problem solving, collaboration and continuous improvement, with an emphasis on developing people and delivering measurable results. She works closely with clients to implement sustainable recovery strategies that balance commercial objectives with sound governance, regulatory compliance and service excellence.
